Program Philosophy Statement

The Teller County Honorary Deputy Sheriff Association established a scholarship program. This effort is a meaningful expression of the HDSA’s confidence in and respect for education and training. The HDSA considers this an investment in the future and believes the HDSA is helping to provide deserving students with an opportunity to make a positive contribution to society.

The HDSA awards up to $10,000 in multiple scholarships in an academic school year.

Eligibility

We typically accept applications through April for awards applicable to the current academic year. If you are a permanent resident of Teller County, you must apply by the deadline when it is announced.

Any permanent legal resident of Teller County who plans to enroll in a vocational training program or institution of higher learning in the state of Colorado as a full-time or part-time student for the current school year is eligible. Applicants must reside in Teller County to qualify for the HDSA scholarship.

Those who have received scholarships in the previous years may apply again and be considered for an additional award.

Applicants must be legal residents of the United States and eligible for admission or readmission to the school(s) or institution(s) of learning indicated in the application. The award will only be paid for attendance at certified schools or institutions of learning within the state of Colorado.

There shall be no restrictions as to the course of study or training pursued. No restrictions shall be placed by reason of race, creed, color, age, sex, or national origin.

Terms

Applicants must maintain good standing in their chosen program.

HDSA SCHOLARSHIP APPLICATION GUIDELINES

Obtaining an Application Applications may be obtained through our website at https://www.tellercountyhdsa.org/, or by contacting the Teller County Sheriff’s Office. They may be typed or handwritten.

Application Filing Deadline

All applications must be submitted to the Teller County Sheriff’s Office no later than the date given when the announcement is made.

Selection

Applications received by the Teller County Sheriff’s Office will be reviewed by a citizen’s committee selected by the HDSA board members.

Announcement of Award

The final selection process is to be completed in time to allow the award announcement by May of the current year. The award will be presented to the recipient by HDSA board members and the Teller County Sheriff as soon thereafter as possible.
